Cathedral Courtyard Deck Rebuild
Project Overview
At the Diocese of Covington's cathedral campus, the courtyard's aging wood deck had reached the end of its life — soft framing, worn boards, and a rusted railing line along the walk. Radcliff Construction Group removed the old deck and framing entirely, rebuilt it in composite decking on the same footprint, and installed a brand-new railing, restoring safe, level access through a courtyard that has been part of Covington for generations.
The Challenge
Some of the most important work on a historic campus is the part people walk over without thinking about it. The cathedral courtyard's wood deck had served its time — soft boards, tired framing, and a rusted railing line along the walk — on a property that stayed in use throughout, where everything around the work zone had to be protected, including the statue of Mary standing in the middle of it.
Our Solution
Radcliff Construction Group removed the old deck and framing entirely and rebuilt it in long-life composite decking on the same footprint, then installed a brand-new railing in place of the rusted original. The approach for historic settings is simple to say and exacting to do: protect what stays, replace what's failing, and leave the space better than we found it.

Safe, level access restored through the heart of the campus: new composite decking in the original footprint and a brand-new railing, delivered with the care a historic cathedral courtyard deserves — and a courtyard that's ready for the next generation to walk through without thinking about it.
