Commercial Tree, Shrub & Ornamental Plantings

One-time install with ANSI A300 placement, root-zone preparation, mulch detail, and establishment warranty. Tied to renovation completion — no ongoing maintenance.

Plantings Installed for Establishment, Not Just for the Punch List

A commercial tree planted with the burlap and wire basket left intact, no root-flare exposure, and a shallow saucer of mulch will look fine for two seasons and dead by year four. The same is true for shrubs jammed into beds with compacted clay subgrade, and perennials planted into landscape fabric that strangles the root system the moment they mature. RCG's plantings install follows ANSI A300 placement standards — root flare exposed at finished grade, basket and burlap removed, native backfill amended only where soils require it, and mulch detailed at 2–3 inches off the trunk and stem. We install once, document the plant inventory, and back it with an establishment warranty.

    • Trees: Shade trees, ornamental trees, evergreens — installed with proper root-flare exposure and tree pit prep per ANSI A300.
    • Shrub Beds: Foundation plantings, screening, and ornamental beds with proper bed prep and mulch detailing.
    • Perennials & Ornamental Grasses: Specified for the buyer's design — installed with proper spacing and bed prep.
    • Tree Wells & Tree Grates: For hardscape-integrated tree installations on plazas and walkways.
    • Mulch & Bed Edge: 2–3 inches of hardwood mulch with properly defined bed edge — natural cut or steel/aluminum edging per spec.
    • Plant Inventory Documentation: As-built plant inventory with species, quantities, and warranty terms documented at close-out.
    • Coordination With Irrigation: Plantings installed with irrigation coverage verified — drip for shrub beds and tree wells where appropriate.

    ANSI A300-Compliant Tree Installation

ANSI A300 (Part 6) is the industry standard for tree planting and transplanting. We install trees per A300 — root-flare exposed, basket and burlap removed, planting pit sized to twice the root ball width and only as deep as the ball, native backfill, mulch ring detailed off the trunk. The shortcuts that cause four-year tree death are the shortcuts we don't take.

    Establishment Warranty Documented

Industry-standard plant warranty (typically one growing season) on installed materials, conditional on irrigation operation and reasonable weather. We document the warranty terms in writing at close-out and provide a plant inventory the property maintenance team can use to track replacements over time.

Tied to Renovation Completion, Not Ongoing

Plantings install is the typical capstone of a Site Works scope — installed after grading, drainage, hardscape, and irrigation are complete and the building renovation is substantially done. We don't take ongoing planting refresh contracts or annual flower bed rotations. Property maintenance handles seasonal refresh; we install the durable, multi-year plant material that anchors the design.

    Commercial Plantings FAQs

No. Site Works is exclusively commercial install, and plantings are tied to renovation completion — typically a one-time scope at the end of the construction sequence. Property maintenance contractors handle annual flower bed rotations and ongoing seasonal color.

Highly variable based on plant material specified. Trees run $300–$1,500+ each installed (shade trees larger, ornamental smaller). Shrubs run $40–$200 each installed. Mulch and bed prep run $0.75–$2.00 per square foot of bed. A typical commercial buildout plantings package runs $15,000–$60,000 depending on scope. Larger campuses and healthcare entries can reach $150,000+.

Both, but we recommend a landscape architect for any project where plantings are a meaningful portion of the budget or visual identity. For tenant improvement scope and smaller projects, our in-house design covers species selection, layout, and quantities. For larger campuses and signature commercial projects, work from a landscape architect's plant schedule.

Standard one-growing-season warranty on installed material, conditional on irrigation system operation and reasonable weather. Trees that fail establishment during the warranty period are replaced. We document the warranty in writing at close-out and inventory the planting for the property maintenance team's reference.

Pre-emergent application at install requires a pesticide applicator license — Kentucky Category 3 or Ohio Cat 6a/8. Tony's team holds the relevant licenses or coordinates with a licensed sub for that scope. Ongoing weed control is property maintenance scope, not Site Works scope.
