    Commercial Sod Installation

One-time install with proper soil preparation, irrigation coordination, and establishment-period warranty — for healthcare campuses, corporate sites, multifamily, and tenant improvement landscape.

Sod That Establishes, Not Sod That Rolls Out and Dies

Most commercial sod failures trace to one of three root causes: subgrade compaction that prevents root penetration, irrigation that wasn't commissioned before the sod hit the ground, or sod laid on a hot July afternoon with no plan for the first 14 days. RCG installs commercial sod as a system — proper soil amendment and tilling for root depth, irrigation system commissioned and verified before delivery, sod from regional growers cut within 24 hours of install, and a documented establishment plan handed to the property maintenance team at substantial completion. We install once, and the establishment warranty backs it up.

    • Subgrade Preparation: Tilling, soil amendment, and topsoil placement to provide root depth — not just spreading sod over compacted fill.
    • Sod Selection: Tall fescue and fescue/bluegrass blends for the majority of corridor commercial sites; zoysia for specific applications where heat tolerance matters.
    • Coordination With Irrigation: Sod installed only after irrigation system is commissioned and verified — not before.
    • Establishment Warranty: Industry-standard establishment-period warranty for sod that doesn't take, conditional on irrigation system operation and reasonable weather.
    • Hydroseed Alternative: For larger-area scopes (5+ acres) where sod cost is prohibitive, hydroseed with proper tackifier and erosion blanket as an alternative establishment method.
    • Edge Detail: Clean edges at hardscape, walks, and beds — not "ragged sod meeting concrete."
    • Documentation: Establishment care guide handed to property maintenance team at close-out.

    Regional Growers, 24-Hour Cut-to-Install

Cincinnati-corridor commercial sod sources include regional growers who can deliver sod cut within 24 hours of install. We coordinate delivery with install scheduling so the sod doesn't sit on a pallet through three days of summer heat before placement.

    Irrigation Commissioned First

No commercial sod install starts until the irrigation system is fully commissioned, programmed, and verified. The first 14 days of sod establishment depends on consistent irrigation — and a system being "installed but not running" doesn't qualify.

Install Only — No Mowing or Maintenance

RCG's Site Works division doesn't bid mowing, fertilization, or seasonal maintenance. We install the sod, document the establishment plan, train the property maintenance team on first-year care, and step away. Your maintenance contractor handles ongoing turf care.

    Commercial Sod Installation FAQs

Tall fescue and fescue/bluegrass blends for most commercial corridor sites — they handle the transition-zone climate (hot summers, cold winters) reliably and look acceptable through both extremes. Zoysia for specific applications (athletic fields, high-heat exposure, specific aesthetic). Bermuda is generally not appropriate for our latitude and we don't recommend it for commercial corridor sites.

Commercial sod runs roughly $1.00–$2.50 per square foot installed including subgrade prep and topsoil. A 20,000-SF commercial sod install typically falls in the $25,000–$45,000 range. Sites with extensive subgrade issues (heavy compaction, poor drainage) cost more because the prep work expands.

For large-area scopes (typically 5+ acres) where sod cost is prohibitive, yes — hydroseed with proper tackifier, fertilizer slurry, and erosion blanket on slopes. Hydroseed is materially less expensive than sod per square foot, but establishment is slower (60–90 days to mow-ready vs. 14–21 for sod) and the first-mow timing is critical.

Standard industry warranty covers sod that fails to establish during the first 30–60 days, conditional on the irrigation system operating as designed and reasonable weather conditions. We don't warrant against extreme drought, vandalism, herbicide drift from adjacent properties, or property maintenance team neglect — but we do warrant our installation and the sod product itself.

Where required, yes — but pre-emergent application requires a Kentucky Category 3 or Ohio Cat 6a/8 pesticide applicator license. Tony's team holds the relevant licenses or coordinates with a licensed applicator sub for that scope.
